*INSENSITIVITY OF THE AKUFFO ADDO LED GOVERNMENT EXPOSED AT THE JUST ENDED TRAINING ON THE NEW CURRICULUM*
The only Government which has prioritized access and quality education to Ghanaians is H.E John Dramani Mahama led government. Education plays a vital role in the life of every single Ghanaian and for that matter, politicians must equally prioritize quality education as topmost need on their scale of preference.
The NPP Government led by H.E Nana Akuffo Addo did little in the education sector and sees no need to develop the human resources that will inure to quality education in Ghana.
The recent case of New Curriculum Training for teachers across the country is a classical example.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) and the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) recently launched the new curriculum which would be used in Ghanaians schools in the 2019/2020 academic year.
The new curriculum is to cover Kindergarten 1 to Primary 6 and therefore there was the need for the key implementors of the said curriculum to undergo a training.
Circuit supervisors, head teachers and teachers in the public basic schools were therefore called for training on the new curriculum.
It must be noted that, all setbacks and inconveniences associated with the training session for teachers will eventually affect the essential knowledge and skills teachers are expected to acquire after the training session.
This training could have been a good opportunity for government to help teachers for the first time to deliver when the new syllabus is rolled out but unfortunately, the government has decided to poorly organize a training session for the implementors and hence a defeat on the high impacts and expectations for which the new curriculum is to be rolled out.
Challenges
*Poor quality of food*
Concerns have been raised by a section of the teachers concerning the quality of food being given to them and hence some level of acrimony among them.Teachers who were to be fed with GHC 8.00 per training ended up been fed with GHC 5.00 or less, what a wicked Government!
*Allowance*
Although the Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh was categorical on GHC 140.00 to be paid to teachers undergoing the said training, but eventually the amount reduced to GHC 50.00 and even in the case of some Districts, nothing was given to the teachers with an excuse of the money not been credited into an account.
What a cruel treatment meted out to teachers?
Some teachers in some districts are expected to take their GHC 50.00 on Tuesday.
Teachers are beacon of knowledge and must therefore be accorded the needed respect.
If the NPP Government can spend a whopping amount of 6.7 million dollars only on their supporters in the AFCON 2019 and not ready to spend much on training of teachers towards the new curriculum, it tells you the nature of the insensitivity of our leaders steering the affairs of the country.
The president has clearly demonstrated that, Ghana Education Service and for that matter teaching service are nothing under his leadership as the president of the 4th Republic.
